DAY 1: IQUITOS / RIO AMAZONAS
Transfer to the main port of Iquitos

As you settle into your spacious room, the boat will begin its journey through the Itaya River, deep into the Amazon. Within the next few days, you will also navigate along the two largest tributaries of the Amazon River, the Ucayali and the Marañón, as well as the mighty Amazon itself. You will embark on a spectacular adventure, to a place visited only by some of the most experienced travelers in the world.
Guidance on Safety on board
Before dinner, we will meet on the upper deck to brief you on safety on board. Next, the Cruise Director and the naturalist guides will give you a short orientation talk about life on board, about the places you will go and what you will see during your trip through the Amazon.
Welcome dinner
Peruvian cuisine is considered one of the best in the world. This is presented here with a European touch, pairing the dishes with typical ingredients from the jungle, created by our Executive Chef Pedro Miguel Schiaffino and with a select suggestion of South American wines. While you enjoy these delicacies, observe the river and surroundings through our panoramic windows.
Before retiring to rest, we suggest you enjoy a cocktail on the upper deck, under the stars.

DAY 2: RIO AMAZONAS / RIO YARAPA / NAUTA CAÑO (RESERVA NACIONAL PACAYA SAMIRIA)
Expedition to the Amazon River
Get up early for your first time watching the sunrise over the Amazon River. This will be just a taste of what the rest of your trip has in store for you. Return to AQUA AMAZON.

Wake up early and enjoy the beautiful sunrise view. Indulge in our delicious daily breakfast, which features a wide variety of dishes, as well as Peruvian specialties and fresh fruit juices.
Yarapa River Exploration and Moringo Lake Fishing This morning you will board your comfortable boat to navigate from the Amazon River and we will enter the Yarapa River to explore it. Life jackets, ponchos, rubber boots, and fresh water will always be available in our boats. As we navigate through the Yarapa River, we will observe some fishermen paddling their canoes. Keep your binoculars ready to see a wide variety of wildlife: swallows, tropical songbirds, pipites, black-necked hawks and sloths, sharing this wonderful place with us. After our arrival at Moringo Lake, you will be able to use your fishing tools to try to catch some of the ferocious piranhas, as well as other species of fish. As you fish, our naturalist guides will tell you the history of the lake and its inhabitants.

Refreshing towels await you as you transfer back aboard the AQUA AMAZON. While the boat continues its journey up the Amazon River, you will have free time to rest or take a nap before having lunch.

Excursion to Nauta Caño
Nauta Caño is part of the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, also known as the forest of mirrors, due to the black waters of its lagoons, in which one of the most beautiful scenes of nature is reflected. In this area we will observe different species of animals such as: toucans, macaws, iguanas, hawks, monkeys, etc. Returning to AQUA AMAZON we will enjoy one of the most incredible sunsets reflected in the black waters of the flooded forest.

DAY 3: RIO MARAÑON / RIO YANAYACU – PUCATE (RESERVA NACIONAL PACAYA SAMIRIA)
Excursion to the Yanayacu River – Pucate and breakfast on board the boats
This morning, we will visit the Yanayacu - Pucate river basin inside the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, a blackwater river, where you can observe many species of flora and fauna, especially species of macaws and different species of primates such as friars. and the black monkey and the famous river dolphins, whether pink or gray, the Amazonian peoples have the belief that these animals become human beings to take men and women of great beauty from their villages during popular celebrations .
Enjoy a light breakfast on board, consisting of sandwiches and fresh juice. We will make a stop near a quiet place where you will be able to appreciate a unique show while enjoying your snack.
Your naturalist guide will tell you about sustainable development projects taking place in this part of the Peruvian Amazon.

Lunch
Hike on the mainland on the Casual Trail – Marañón River. We will navigate the Marañón river observing the different species of flora and fauna until we reach the community of Casual where we will hike on dry land. On this walk you will have the opportunity to observe a lot of wildlife, keep your binoculars ready to observe the different species of birds such as some Tangaras or Caciques, reptiles and amphibians, such as the beautiful and striking poisonous frogs along the route through this impressive trail on the mainland, as well as different species of trees and plants, both timber and medicinal.

While you have dinner we will continue our journey upriver, towards the source of the Amazon River, where the Ucayali and Marañón rivers join to form it.

DAY 4: NACIMIENTO DEL AMAZONAS / VISITA COMUNIDAD RIBEREÑA / NAUTA

Birth of the Amazon
This morning, the AQUA AMAZON will sail the boundaries of the vast Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, a dense vegetation that covers five million acres in the tributaries of the Amazon basin. Get up early to see one of the greatest spectacles in the southern hemisphere: the sunrise over the headwaters of the Amazon River.
Here, at the junction of the two largest tributaries, the Ucayali and the Marañón, the greatest waterfall in the world is formed – nature at its best. Your morning excursion will be accompanied by abundant bird sounds as you cruise our boats past river banks populated by long-beaked swallows, laughing hawks, exotic short-tailed parrots, and dozens of other bird species.
Visit Riverside Community
We will travel by boat to a riverside community located along the Marañón River, where you will be able to meet and interact with the local people of this remote part of the world, as well as learn a little more about their culture, traditions, and folklore. You will be able to take a short walk to observe how these communities properly manage their natural resources. You will also have the opportunity to exchange goods for local handicrafts.

Visit to the town of Nauta
This afternoon, we will have the opportunity to visit the town of Nauta, the oldest town in the Department of Loreto. This town was founded in the year 1930, it is the only point of access to the city of Iquitos during our trip. Nauta is very important for the local communities since it is the main point where they come to sell the products they harvest in their communities. We will take a walk around the town to experience the life of the riverside towns.
We will visit the local market where many fish are sold, in order to learn about the different species that can be caught by local Amazonian fishermen, as well as all kinds of Amazonian fruits.
Optionally we have the opportunity to explore and navigate the Lupunillo or Marayali ravine, a tributary of the Marañón river.

DAY 5: RIO UCAYALI / RIO YANALLPA / EL DORADO / RESERVA NACIONAL PACAYA SAMIRIA

Expedition through the Ucayali / Yanallpa river
This morning we will board the boats to explore this fascinating torrent of dark waters, part of the vast hydrography of the Amazon Forest and part of the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. Your guides will talk to you about the jungle as we explore what scientists call “the gallery of the jungle” due to its dense vegetation, creating a tunnel of leaves. While we explore this type of riverside vegetation, you can easily observe parrots, macaws, and hairy Amazon friar monkeys very close to the boats, optimal for taking the photos you want.

Dorado River Exploration and Night Excursion
This afternoon, we will take a magical trip through the "Jungle of Mirrors", observing huge trees reflected on the dark river, while we enter the Dorado River we will observe dozens of charming parrots, macaws and a great variety of primates appear enjoying nature without flinching in our presence. While we make the return trip to our boat AQUA AMAZON, you will also have the opportunity to see alligators, frogs and fishing bats.

DAY 6: RIO PUINAHUA / RIO PACAYA / RESERVA NACIONAL PACAYA SAMIRIA

Full Day Excursion to the Primary Forest on the Pacaya River
This morning we will go on a full day excursion along the Pacaya River, observing and exploring the floodplain forest of this vast region of the Peruvian Amazon. During your excursion in our comfortable boats, you will be able to appreciate the great variety of natural life, many species of birds including large parrots, macaws, herons and storks and many species of primates such as the capuchin and howler monkeys and the graceful friars. We will have the opportunity to visit some of the most beautiful lakes that can be found in the reserve and friendly local people who are taking care of the natural resources of the reserve, while you travel our nature guide will comment on natural resource management projects We will arrive in our tour to the Yarina PV2 surveillance post, where you can enjoy your field lunch. On the way back we will be able to observe the famous Ceiba trees, the tallest in the Amazon.

Option 2: Expedition to the Pacaya and Puhinahua rivers / Expedition to observe Monkeys and Dolphins

Exploration to the Pacaya river and piranha fishing This morning you will board your comfortable boat to navigate and explore the Pacaya River, a river of dark waters. Life jackets, ponchos, rubber boots, and fresh water will always be available in our boats. As we navigate through the Pacaya River, we will observe some fishermen paddling their canoes. Keep your binoculars ready to see a wide variety of wildlife: swallows, tropical songbirds, black-necked hawks and snails, monkeys and sloths, sharing this wonderful place with us. After our arrival at a special point, you will be able to use your fishing tools to try to catch some of the ferocious piranhas, as well as other kinds of fish. While fishing, our naturalist guides will tell you the history of the lake and the natural life.

Expedition to observe Dolphins to the Puhinahua river
On this expedition along the Puhinahua River you will be able to appreciate two different types of freshwater dolphins – including the unusual pink dolphins found in the Amazon River. In addition, you will be able to appreciate a great variety of wildlife, watch for tree lizards or iguanas and keep your binoculars ready as you will see more than 200 species of birds.

DAY 7: RIO UCAYALI / LAGO CLAVERO / RIO AMAZONAS

Visit to Lake Clavero. Canoeing and Swimming.
On this occasion we will have the opportunity to visit Lake Clavero and experience with the inhabitants of the area the traditional management of canoes, a very common means of transport among people who live on the banks of the Amazon rivers and if you wish you can swim in the calm waters of Lake Clavero, a tributary of the Ucayali River. Additionally, if you wish, you could visit the community to interact with the residents and share experiences.

From this point, we will begin to navigate down the river, towards Iquitos.

On this occasion we will have the opportunity to navigate on the great Amazon River, observing the flora and fauna that it houses throughout its route. We will visit a riverside community that conserves its forest, managing it adequately for the conservation of the natural resources found in it and its ancestral customs. Back at AQUA AMAZON we will see nocturnal creatures, perhaps even large alligators. Keep an eye out for alligators and keep your binoculars ready as you will see more than 200 species of birds.

Summary of the trip
Excursion in the morning – It will depend on the level of the river.
Weather and weather permitting, we will have an opportunity to tour the floodplain that borders the city of Iquitos and observe the houses and shops that have been floating on the Itaya River for months. Then we can visit the traditional market of Bellavista Nanay, on the edge of the Nanay River, in this traditional market you can see the sale of different products from the Peruvian Amazon, as well as the sale of exotic snacks such as the Amazon caterpillar "Suri", that lives in the palm trees and that is a very appetizing snack for people from the communities and even from the city.

Unfortunately, it's time to pack up. Please, before lunch, leave your luggage in your room ready to be picked up.

Disembarkation/Stroll through the City/Visit to the center of Manatíes/Transfer to the Airport
This afternoon, we will take you for a tour of Iquitos, a glorious city in the days of the rubber boom. We will visit the Amazon Fauna Rescue Center, a kind of animal orphanage where they receive manatees and Amazonian dolphins and provide them with specialized care to save them and reinsert them in their natural habitat in the future. Later, we will make a stop at the Mercado Indio Amazónico de San Juan, where, if you wish, you can buy some local handicrafts before leaving.
The guides will help you check in at the airport and will stay with you until you have boarded your flight back to Lima.
