Itinerary

DAY 01: CUSCO – LARES – WACAHUASI

We leave early in the morning from Cusco to go to Calca, to later go up to the highest point of the road (4.265 m.). From this point you can see the Sawasiray and Pitusiray mountains before descending to the warm Lares Valley at an altitude of 3.207 m. We will arrive in a small and typical colonial village with a church, main square and narrow streets. Here we will meet with our muleteers, we will have lunch and then we will start our journey. Our route ascends until the community of Wacawasi (first campsite) situated at 3.600 m., an enchanting community with small houses built with adobe and straw. We will walk 6 – 7 kilometers.

DAY 02: WACAHUASI – YANAHUARA

After a good breakfast we leave our camp at 08:00. We will ascend to the Huahuaqasa pass (4.500 m.)
(Highest point of our trek) and then we will descend to Arurayccoha Yuraccoha and lakes that are formed by the mountain peaks and Pumahuanca Kiswarani. Close to these lakes we will have our lunch. This is a marvelous walk, Through the Urubamba cordillera, you will have the opportunity to see Andean birds such as condors. The camping is located at 1:30 hours from our lunch spot, close to Mantanay village (3.800 m.). We will walk a distance of 10 kilometers.

DAY 03: YANAHUARA – OLLANTAYTAMBO – AGUAS CALIENTES

We will get down to the ravine of Yanhuara for almost 3 hours, walking a distance of 9 kilometers and until an altitude of 2.950 m. We will arrive to the little village of Yanhuara in the Urubamba valley, for the Incas the fertile Sacred Valley. They considered it as the granary of Cusco, with its terraced hillsides filled with corn and other crops, watered by the glaciers of the great snowy peaks and the sacred river, which they worshiped as the “Wilkamayu”. After lunch we will finally arrive in Ollantaytambo, this ancient Inca Town is considered one of the most important outdoors and living museums of the world. Here we will take the train to Aguas Calientes.

DAY 04: MACHU PICCHU – CUSCO

After a good night sleep, we will take the bus to the city of Machu Picchu where our guide will be waiting for us along with the rest of the group. This is the most outstanding day of our trek. In the morning we will start a guided tour of approximately 2:30 hours through the ruins of Machu Picchu accompanied by a professional guide. After that you will have some free time to explore the mysteries of the Lost City of The Incas by yourselves. In the late afternoon we will return to Cusco by train. The train will bring us to Ollantaytambo/Poroy and from there a car will bring you to your hotel in Cusco.
Machu Picchu was declared World Heritage by UNESCO in 1983 and has recently been chosen as one of the 7 New World Wonders. Machu Picchu (literally ”Old Mountain” in Quechua) was one of the principal, or maybe the most important religious sanctuary of the Incas. It is considered as one of the most genius works of architecture and engineering of all times. Together with the mysteries it holds it became one of the most popular attractions of America.

NOTE:
Passengers who would like to visit Huayna Picchu should add 15.00 USD to the total price and should inform us when making the reservation. The number of visitors allowed daily is restricted to 400 persons and it is necessary to register for one of the two possible entrance moments: 07:00 or 11:00.
