Itinerary

During the Ausangate trek we will come across the “Rainbow Mountain” or “Colored Mountain”, recently also called “Mountain of 7 colors”. These names were given to the mountain top by visitors who arrived at the mountain top after an intensive climb and admired this impressive mountain chain and its beautiful colors. The incredible landscapes during this hike, like valleys, streams and snowy mountain tops make this an unforgettable experience. The mountain owes its beautiful landscape of colors to the presence of sedimentary rocks that are in erosion.

We will leave very early in the morning (3 am) from Cusco to the village of Checacupe (3440 m) from where we will go to the small village of Pitumarca (3560 m). On the road we will pass by the villages of Japura and Hachipata. Later we will arrive at the road point Q´esiuno (4320m) where we will have breakfast.

After breakfast, accompanied by a beautiful sunrise, we will start our hike for approximately 3h30 (8km) following the road through the ravine, crossing small streams, until we arrive at “Vinincunca”(5200m.) from where we will have an amazing view at this unique mountain and its wonderful colors. We will have time to take pictures and enjoy the view. Later we will start our descend to Q´esiuno where a car will take us to the places where we will have our lunch. After lunch the car will bring us back to Cusco.
