Day 01: Huaraz / Cashapampa (2900m) / Llamacorral (3700m).
We headed to Cashapampa 2800m for 3 hours. We met our muleteers, we loaded all the equipment on the donkeys and we started walking. We climbed continuously following the Santa Cruz River, first we are in a narrow canyon and after lunch the field opens to a wider valley and we begin to have a view of the snowy mountains. We camped in an open field near the river at Llamacorral 3750m 5 hours.
Day 02: Llamacorral / Campamento Base Alpamayo / Taullipampa (4,250 m).
An easier day of hiking on a wide valley. We pass two small lagoons and then we have our first view of the famous Alpamayo mountain. We camped at Taullipampa 4250m, a beautiful camp surrounded by mountains and located near the foot of Paso Unión Pass. 4 hours.
Optional extra day: Stay one more night in the beautiful camp of Taullipampa. Options to visit the Base Camp of Alpamayo, Laguna Arhuaycocha, Climb the Cerro Centillo 5000m or have a rest day.
Day 03: Taullipampa / Paso Punta Unión (4.700 m) / Cachinapampa (3.700m).
Ascend continuously for 2 to 3 hours until the pass of Punta Union 4750m then descend past a small alpine lagoon where we often stop for lunch. We continue descending towards the valley of Huaripampa to then leave the main path and cross through the bushes to our camp in a hidden valley off the main road in Paria 3850m. 7 hours.
Day 4: Huaripampa /Paso Portachuelo (4850 m) / Cebollapampa (3850m).
First we easily descend the valley of Huaripampa passing cultivation fields and villages. Then a short climb to the road in Vaquería where the private vehicle awaits us to drive over 4850m from Paso Portachuelo to our camp in Cebollapampa (3850m). 4 hours of walking and 2 hours by vehicle.
Day 5: Cebollapampa / Campo Base Pisco (4600 m).
A short day. We ascend on a good path to Pisco Base Camp. 4650m 2½ hours. Rest in the afternoon.
Day 6: Campo Base Pisco - Campo Morena (4.800 m).
Ascend on the rocks of the moraine to the Morrena Field. The route is on the immense moraine and is steep in parts. Donkeys can not climb this road. The porters carry the tents, rope, food and kitchen equipment, but you have to carry your personal equipment. 4900m 3 hours
Day 7: Campamento Moraine / Cumbre Pisco (5,752 m) / Campamento base.
Ascend the moraine for about 40 minutes to the glacier, then ascend the glacier for about 4 to 5 hours to the top. Most of the route is not too steep or technically difficult, although height makes it a challenge. There are short steep sections and hard ice or a crack that can be avoided and the guides will assist them. At noon, return to the base camp. About 10 to 12 hours in total for today.
Day 8: Campo Base / Cebollapampa / Llanganuco / Huaraz.
An easy descent to the road in Cebollapampa for 1½ hours and return to Huaraz in our private vehicle.
